Sinus infection home remedy using ancient Indian remedies

If you want to safeguard your house against airborne diseases, hang two bunches of “Neem” leaves at the main doorway of your house.

A mixture of saffron and “Neem” leaves provide cleansing and anti-bacterial qualities ,so use it to wash your house entrance every morning  and if you are not feeling well because of your sinus, you can place the leaves on the bed and around the bedside and it will help you to recover swiftly.

The Basil plant

The basil is an important symbol in the Hindu religious tradition and is worshipped in the morning and evening by Hindus at large. The basil plant helps to purify the atmosphere and is encouraged to be grown and placed in a pot in the front and back of the house.

There are many tips on how you can use basil as an effective sinus infection home remedy –

  1. A decoction of the leaves with honey and ginger is very effective for many respiratory system disorder such as sinus, bronchitis and asthma.
  2. Drinking the juice extracted from basil leaves can also bring down a fever and eases a sore throat.
  3. Chewing on the leaves helps to loosen the mucus, relieves cold and flu.
  4. Pound basil leaves and mix it with sandalwood paste and apply on the forehead makes an excellent relief for a sinus headache.

Is your chronic sinus caused by Bed Bugs?

BedBugs-3D-SmallWe know of many common allergens and irritants that can trigger a sinus infection like pollens, dust, gases, molds and cockroaches, but have you heard that bed bugs can be a trigger factor too. A friend of mine asked whether I can suggest a sinus home remedy to get rid of bed bugs as she believes that these pests are the main culprit for her chronic sinus and she does not want to resort to hiring a pest control expert until she has done some remedial efforts on her own.

Getting rid of bed bugs is not an easy task. The bed bug is described to look like a tick so the process of identifying one from the other is a hard task. Though a tick feeds primarily on animals like dogs or cats, some bed bugs feed on humans.

In getting rid of bed bugs, one has to remember why they are loathsome. Bed bugs are often seen as vampire creature. They lie in wait for their prey and patiently take the time to come out and feed. No wonder many want to get rid of bed bugs.

But it is not so easy to find and get rid of bed bugs. They are tiny creatures and can only be correctly identified by closer examination. However, when bed bugs start to infest a house, even the small animals can be at risk and is one of the reasons why pets are not encouraged for chronic sinus sufferers.
Bed bugs are tricky and resilient. Like the cockroach, getting rid of bed bugs will require a commitment from the owner. These parasites can live in sofas and carpeting without our knowledge. What makes this task of finding and getting rid of bed bugs is that the little buggers can thrive in seemingly neat and orderly rooms.

A definition of a bed bug’s habitat is warm areas with plenty of hiding places. It must be close to human contact. The most obvious places to look and get rid of bed bugs are in mattresses, carpeting, throw pillows and sofa beds.
Once mattresses have been cleaned, encase the mattress in a special allergen-impermeable casing which is available as tightly woven fabrics rather than the plastic ones which are slippery and have a tendency to grow mold on the inside. This simple precaution will reduce your exposure to bed bugs and also dust mites hundredfold. You can also use a plastic zip-on cover for your pillows and wash your bedding sheets in hot water at 140 degrees Fahrenheit every week.
Protecting your bedding is a very effective chronic sinus home remedy to use.

Bed bugs aren’t called bed bugs for nothing. They have such a name because bed bugs often hide in tufts, seams, and crevices of the mattress, bed frame, box spring, and headboard.  Choose a bed with a plain wooden or metal frame rather than a divan base and have a plain headboard and not an upholstered one. Things to look for in getting rid of bed bugs are the bugs themselves and light brown spots of molted skin. The dark spots of bed bug excrement are also present along mattress seams of where the pests stayed. Thorough inspection of the bed will save time and money.

These bed bugs can be found in tiny cracks near where humans take a break, sleep or relax. Making sure to get rid of the bed bugs in upholstery may require a good dose of vacuuming. This way they can get the dust mites as well. Dust as often as possible and at least once a week and to wear a dust mask while you are cleaning and use models of vacuum cleaners which have tougher bags and exhaust filters. It is advisable not to place upholstered furniture in the bedroom.

You can also use acaracides which are chemicals to get rid of bed bugs and also dust mites. Spray your carpets and furnishings at least twice a year, vacuum thoroughly to remove the dead bed bugs. The chemicals used are tannic acid, crotamiton and benzyl benzoate but be cautious as they can cause skin irritation and people who are suffering from chronic sinus must be very careful with the chemical sprays that they use as they can be major trigger factors.

Changing the way you furnish your home as described above can reduce the population of bed bugs effectively but we must bear in mind that it is impossible to totally sanitize our home from these pesky creatures.

Sinus Headache and what you can do to end it

What are the symptoms of a sinus headache?

These are the typical symptoms which you might experience –

  1. Persistent pain over cheek or forehead
  2. The pain gets worse when you move your head
  3. Having a deep and dull aching pain
  4. Having nasal blockage, congestion and discharge
  5. Having ear pressure
  6. Swelling of the face
  7. Fever

The best and most effective way to know whether your headache is caused by your sinus is to consult your doctor to properly diagnose it.

There can be many treatments to relieve a sinus headache as you can either choose to use the conventional or the complementary treatment but it is recommended that you consider using both treatments as research has shown that when used hand-in-hand, they can aid your recovery faster.

Conventional treatment

The following measures can help to relieve your headache -

  1. Take analgesics such as aspirin
  2. Take painkiller such as ibuprofen or paracetamol and drink plenty of water
  3. Use decongestants to reduce the swelling the inside of the nose
  4. Take papaya and bromelain buccal tablets to reduce the inflammation
  5. Take magnesium supplements as there has been evidence which shows that headache can develop due to a deficiency in magnesium.

Complementary treatment

There are many options and some are listed below –

  1. Take fish oil supplements – teenagers who took fish-oil supplements for 2 months had an 83% decrease in their headache attacks and even when they have the attack, they recover faster.
  2. Change in diet – the foods which would commonly trigger a sinus headache is alcoholic drinks, chocolate, cow’s milk, dairy products, wheat, shellfish and nuts. You should add more healing foods into your diet such as all type of berries, cauliflower, kale, broccoli, apricots and papaya.
  3. Herbal home remedies – there are many such remedies which you can try but this concoction is my favorite. Chop 1 cup of fresh peppermint. Pour 2 cups boiling water over it and steep for 5 minutes. Strain and sweeten and add some lemon slice. Peppermint is known to relieve nasal, sinus and chest congestion. It can also aid cough by increasing saliva and at the same time freshens the breath.
  4. Aromatic inhalations using essential oils – add 3 drops of tea tree and 2 drops of eucalyptus into a bowl of hot water. Cover your head with a towel and breathe in the steam. This combination is great to decongest blocked nasal passages, kill off the germs and soothe the cold as these might have triggered a sinus headache.
  5. Acupuncture – this can be a very effective method of pain relief and has been used in dentistry, surgery and childbirth. Having acupuncture can lead to an increase in energy, an improved appetite and better sleep.
  6. The potent  3-plant extract – when cinnamon, thyme and oil of cloves are combined together, they become very potent in relieving a sinus headache. Cinnamon is reputably known to prevent colds and is high in antioxidant. Thyme acts as an expectorant, loosening phlegm in the respiratory tract so that it can be coughed up and oil of cloves is popularly used as a home remedy for sinus, bronchitis, the common cold, a cough, fever, sore throat and tending to infections.
